OK, here's the setup: A business conference comes up, an important conference. The catch: It is at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Maui, Hawaii. The problem: How do you convince your boss it's not a boondoggle? The answer: Easy—take your boss with you!

The timing couldn't have been more perfect either. Jeff & Lori celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary a few days before the conference started, so we ponied up for the extra plane ticket, booked ourselves a hotel, and had a wonderful second honeymoon. Lori absolutely loves time to herself, so keeping occupied the rest of the week while Jeff was in conference sessions was not a problem.

And what a wonderful trip it turned out to be! Thanks to the kindness and generosity of good friends, the kids were well taken care of stateside for the week, so Jeff & Lori found themselves alone in paradise. If you've never been, Maui more than lives up to its reputation. The scenery is beautiful, the weather perfect, the pace relaxed and the people friendly. We hope you enjoy looking over our shoulders as we relive a bit of that time in pictures.

Jeff at Maui Marriott
Welcome to Maui! This is our room for the first couple of nights at the Maui Marriott in Lahaina. We got an incredible rate, as the hotel was due to be under major renovation during our stay, but there was a delay until the day after we left!
Marriott balcony view
The view from our balcony at the Marriott. We spent many relaxing hours on that beach. And if you get a bit hot, slap on a mask and fins and treat yourself to the live tropical fish show just off shore.
Luau
OK, you've got to attend one luau in your lifetime. It's pretty touristy, but was a good experience. We're pictured here with one of the luau staff, and of course, the dearly departed pig under the sheet.
Maui Tropical Plantation
The other tourist thing was a trip to the Maui Tropical Plantation. It tries to preserve a small part of each of Hawaii's unique agricultural crops, and was actually quite interesting.
Making a lei
(At the Maui Tropical Plantation.) You're right, that's exactly what she's doing: making a lei.
Pineapple plants
(At the Maui Tropical Plantation.) You'd probably get boored with the other plant shots, but I just had to show you what pineapples look like before Mr. Dole gets hold of them.
Ritz entrance
The conference was up the coast a bit in the city of Kapalua. Welcome to the Ritz.
Ritz grounds
As you would expect, the grounds are fabulous, and the recreational facilities numerous.
Lori using laptop
Of course, even if you're on your second honeymoon, you're still a Mom first, and that means keeping in touch with the kids via email.
Ritz balcony view
We have lots of other pictures of the room (the word "palacial" would not be out of place), but we'll settle for a glance over the balcony at the island of Molokai.
Conference session
OK, just to prove Jeff was really at a conference, here's a shot of one of the sessions. See? Draped tables, speakers, microphones, signs, the whole shot.
Dinner at Bubba Gump's
And after a day of gruelling conference sessions, you need to relax a bit. With Jeff and Lori (at Bubba Gump's in Lahaina) is Ken, Jeff's boss. (He's really a great boss, but don't tell him Jeff said that.)
Cruise ship
Well all good things must come to an end, and all too soon we had to get back on the cruise ship—oh, didn't I mention the cruise ship? Just kidding, we took the plane. But maybe someday...
Kids with Hawaii gifts
And when we got back, you can bet there were three very happy kids to greet us. Here they are decked out in all the Hawaii stuff we brought back for them. Aloha!
