The CD Is Done!

It has been a dream of mine for several years to record a CD of lullabies and similar songs. I had no idea if or how it would come about, as I had no budget to work with! I left it in God's hands...

In the fall of 2000, I was rehearsing some music with two friends, Jack Ketchem and Kevin Stevenson. One of them asked if I had ever considered recording. I replied, "Funny you should ask...!" and proceeded to share my ideas with them. Unbeknownst to me, Jack (at whose house we were rehearsing), had recently acquired state-of-the-art recording equipment, and was eager to use it! He offered to let me record there, I invited Kevin to participate, and "At Home" was conceived!

The following week I asked Don Stamey (keyboard) and David Dennis (drums) if they would like to be involved, and they both enthusiastically agreed. We spent Tuesday nights for the next several months arranging, rearranging and recording the songs I had, while I wrote more songs for the project in between our sessions! It was such fun to see the project coming together, and there was always an atmosphere of camaraderie during the sessions (which also always included chocolate!).

Because we all had "day jobs," our sessions were limited to about two hours. Jack showed the patience of a saint, setting up and tearing down dozens of times through the months without a word of complaint!

Toward the end we brought in several gifted musicians to add finishing touches to three of the songs. Carolyn Litchfield played cello on "All Through the Night," Dave Friedrichs played saxophone on "Where You Belong," and Mary Dagani played flute on "Over the Rainbow." Each of these songs was sweetened by the unique contribution made by these musicians. In addition, my husband Jeff took the pictures and designed the graphics.

To all of the above, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. It has been a delight to watch God bring all of this together.
